The Dubai shopping festival

Due to the annual Dubai shopping festival held every year, Dubai has become a hot place for shopping staging the most exciting activities for the whole family bringing in happiness, excitement and joy. Dubai Duty Free is investing more than Dh 100 million to expand its operation at Dubai International Airport. The company will open a 11,000 sq meters in concourse 2 of Terminal 3 when it opens in December 2007, followed by another 6,000 square meters in Concourse 3 in n2009. Dubai’s latest shopping mall, The Festival Waterfront Centre, situated  at Dubai Festival City has opened officially for business, and will be home to over 550 shops, almost 100 restaurants and cafes, a 12 screen multiplex cinema and a bowling alley.

Shopping Malls in Dubai

Normal shopping hours in Dubai are from 9am to 1pm and 4pm until 9pm or later. Most supermarkets stay open all day, from Saturday to Thursday. All shops close for prayers on Friday. Most shops are open on Friday evenings. While boutiques, some electronic shops, department stores and supermarkets operate on a fixed prices basis, in other outlets you can negotiate our way through.

There are over 40 shopping malls in Dubai, the most popular of which are Deira City Centre, Bur Juman, Al GhuriarCity, Wafi Centre, Ibn Battuta Mall, and the Mall of Emirates, Dubai also has various shopping souqs which include Al Fahidi Street, Karama Market, and Deira Gold Souq, that allow you to bargain for prices of fabric, clothes, electronics, gold and jewelry, carpets, handicrafts and more.

Each shopping mall has a mixture of expensive and cheaper clothes. Al Bustan Centre has over 80 shops selling clothes, jewelry, perfumes, watches, cosmetics, foot-ware, toys and kids-wear and super market catering to the needs of in-house guests. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, and the Ruler of Dubai, has announced that Bawadi will be home to the biggest shopping area in the world. It will offer more than 40 million square feet of retail space and will feature numerous shopping malls and streets
