Service mechanics provide a wide range of preventative maintenance as well as service and repair work on automobiles and equipment. To be a service mechanic, a person has to possess a strong work ethic and an ability to handle unexpected situations at a moment's notice



Education : Higher Secondary




Experience : 5 - 10 Years




Maintenance

  • Service mechanics perform various precautionary procedures on all motor vehicles and equipment, including changing the vehicle's oil, checking and changing tires, brakes, electrical systems, and fuel injection pumps.

 


Troubleshooting

  • Service mechanics usually perform diagnostic services on vehicles to determine a specific problem. This includes running a vehicle on a diagnostic machine to check for any abnormal behavior. If a problem does persist, the mechanic will begin to test the vehicle using his own observations and techniques. This method will require additional testing until the faulty component is finally identified.



Service Calls

  • Service mechanics will occasionally travel to perform service repairs. This includes towing a vehicle to a specific auto repair shop, changing tires and checking vehicles for minor service.

 


Order Supplies

  • One of the primary functions for service mechanics is to maintain supplies. Mechanics do have the authority to order parts, supplies, and materials when needed. Mechanics can also purchase requests and write repair orders.



Documentation

  • Paperwork is required through a routine service check or repair; therefore service mechanics have to process orders and complete paperwork on restorations and vehicle checkups.



Test Driving

  • To determine whether a vehicle is properly repaired, service mechanics have to execute test drives to verify that the automobile is driving smoothly and has no mechanical issues.
