Designers employed by large firms usually work a standard 40-hour week; however, like their freelance counterparts, evening and weekend work may be required to meet project deadlines.
Employment Outlook
- According to the BLS, the employment outlook for graphic designers is positive, as the industry is expected to increase in size by approximately 13 percent from 2008 to 2018. However, the BLS also reports that graphic designers may face stiff competition for available jobs because the occupation attracts a large number of talented individuals. Graphic designers with animation and web design skills will be in greater demand due to increases in projects for websites, mobile phones, and other mobile electronic devices and interactive media.
