Salary : $50,000 to $90,000 per year Skills :
- Knowledge of federal, state and local laws. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to analyze case law and provide recommendations. This is normally acquired through a combination of the completion of a Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and three to five years of corporate law experience.
- Requires membership in the State Bar as an attorney qualified to practice law in this state.
- Visibility requires maintaining a professional appearance and providing a positive company image to the public.
Responsibilities :
- A large part of the duty of a lawyer towards his clients is communicating with him regarding any disputes or clarifications pertaining to corporate law.
- They have to conduct research and write legal briefs.
- They have to involve themselves in legal cases and argue in front of a judge for their clients. They may also have to prepare opening and closing courtroom arguments.
- They are responsible to research about the zoning laws when a client opens a new building or offices.
- They will draft, draw up and execute contracts or legal documents on transactional legal issues for their clients.
- They will consult with tax consultants if taxation is an issue, and takes care of any legalities arising out of this.
- They are responsible for understanding the financial aspects of a corporation.
- When all the financial options for loans and liquidation have been exhausted a corporate lawyer will help the client to file for bankruptcy, as a last option.
- The corporate lawyer has to be familiar with all types of bankruptcy and will have to file under the chapter that will benefit the company the most.
Description : Corporate lawyers are specialist in business law and ensure the legality of commercial transactions and all associated concepts. To facilitate their clients to attain their objective a corporate lawyer must not only have thorough knowledge of statutory law and regulations that the government passes but also an insight into the client’s needs, discerning expertise, flexibility and last but not the least a service mentality. Corporate lawyers must make sure that any business deal that takes place is not contravening any local, State or Federal law. They would require delving into contract law, tax law, securities law, accounting, intellectual property rights, bankruptcy, patents, mergers and acquisitions, licensing, global economics, zoning laws and other areas relating to a particular area of business before advising a client or organizing any business transaction legally.
