1. Attend to Hoz, and other designated events, according to the duty schedule, and be available as necessary for emergencies at other times. This includes: · Posting signs in regards to current location and return time if away from Hoz, and carrying the Hoz cell phone, while on duty. · Being reachable when not on duty in case support is required (Resident Nurses) 2. Provide nursing care for students, staff and support staff (according to the school medical policy) · Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for all students, staff and support staff on the school medical policy as needed · Monitor the long term status of students and staff with chronic conditions, such as asthma or diabetes, and encourage good management · Be responsible for first aid treatment in the clinic setting and during emergencies · Supply first aid kits for dorm outings, treks and sporting events · Coordinate the nursing management of inpatients 24 hours a day, and the medical management of those patients, in conjunction with the doctor · Regularly check on sick staff that are staying in their own rooms, particularly single staff, and make sure they have suitable meals provided · Ensure correct administration of drugs 3. Work with the school doctor and other medical specialists when necessary to facilitate medical consultation and treatment. · Keep the School Doctor informed regarding any medical incidents · Work with the school doctor and manage school doctor's clinic · Manage the follow up care ordered by doctors ( including making any follow-up appointments, and facilitating referrals and further investigations) · Consult the school doctor on medical referrals (nurses are able to make referrals independently if the doctor is unavailable, but must notify the school doctor of any referrals as soon as he/she is available) · Accompany all students to doctor appointments and hospital admissions (this may mean staying several days with a student who is an inpatient) · Accompany staff members as necessary (often another staff member is all that is required) · Make appointments with outside doctors, arrange for transportation, and arrange for supporting documentation 4. Take responsibility for the rest, comfort and care of inpatients and for the maintenance of a cheerful environment conducive to recovery · Provide continuity with dorm/school activities (eg bedtimes, prep as able, video and tuck privileges, gender segregation etc) · Arrange with the school caterer for the supply of food and drinks suitable for each patients condition · Supervise the servings of meals to the students via the support staff · Use initiative and sensitivity in providing for the physical and emotional needs of sick children and for staff working under stress · Take a supervisory role in regard to the day to day activities of the Hoz support staff, ensuring that the duties are carried out and the clinic is kept a clean and pleasant environment · Discipline students as necessary in accordance with school policy 5. Maintain health records and documentation for all students, staff and support staff · Record all treatment and medication administered · Write end of term health reports for all students · Record heights and weights of students at the beginning and end of each term · File documentation into blue/grey files daily · Keep all patient files up to date with latest information including recording details of interim medical reports (eg illnesses or any vaccines given during holidays) 6. Maintain communication between Hoz staff and the wider community (Hebron) · Hand over report to other nurses to provide continuity of care - including the use of the diary for the tasks needing to be done on a daily basis · Inform parents by email or phone call if a student is admitted to Hoz overnight · Contact parents immediately (as appropriate) via telephone if a student has a serious accident or illness · Notify dorm parents of students who are inpatients by note system to their pigeon holes · Keep dorm parents informed of extra appointments/follow up etc · Keep staff informed of their medical information (eg test results, next specialist consultations and any medication that may have arrived) · Inform the principal of any emergency · Update allergy lists and distribute to necessary staff (eg catering, food tech, etc) 7. Promote health awareness and education among students, staff and support staff · Liaise with dorm parents, and attend dorm meetings to discuss relevant health issues as necessary. · Contribute to health education within the school syllabus when required · Teach and inform students and staff while caring for them 8. Buy and maintain medical equipment and supplies · Ensure that the clinic has appropriate and up to date/working equipment · Discuss the ordering of any medical equipment with Hoz Coordinator · Weekly check list completed to keep the clinic well stocked · Ensure correct storage of drugs, supplies and equipment · Order medication for staff and students (prescriptions, refills, etc) 9. Do stocktaking monthly 10. Maintain Hoz accounts 11. Supply vitamin and calcium tablets in the dining rooms for students and staff 12. Coordinate immunization program for staff, students and support staff including informing parents and obtaining parental consent for due vaccines, administration of any due vaccines as required during a specific doctors clinic, and updating of records 13. Liaise with DEL regarding specific needs for some students (eg glasses, hearing disorders, ADHD) 14. Provide deworming medication for students, staff and support staff (and families of staff and support staff) every 6 months. Inventory Management Head nurses are responsible for ensuring that adequate quantities of supplies are maintained, and for ordering new supplies when necessary. Working Hours The standard work week in the Gulf is 48 hours. The number of hours in a shift vary somewhat from department to department but generally do not exceed 10 hours.
