 |
Visitors expecting a strict Islamic city will be surprised to find that Dubai’s night life rivals that of many western cities. Clubs in Dubai has some interesting laws; they must close at 3 am, you must be 21 to drink alcohol, 25 to enter a nightclub, and also they are not allowed by law to refuse entrance to anyone, including members only club. A lot of member clubs have very high entrance fees that they will charge, if you do insist on applying the law and entering their club. |
The city is teeming with pubs, bar and clubs though alcohol regulations mean that most are attached to hotels or clubs.
Big name DJs are being attracted to Dubai clubs and bars, as a western style clubbing scene starts to develop. By law Dubai clubs must close at 0300.
The most popular Dubai club is Planetarium. Planet Hollywood, Wafi City, Planetarium is the most likely place in town to attract the big-name DJs. Scream, Ramada Hotel, Al-Mankhool Road is a ware-house type venue that blasts to an appreciative crowd. Pancho Villa’s, Astoria Hotel, has become an institution on the Dubai club scene, with mainstream choice of music, a restaurant and frequent live bands. Carter’s is a very stylish restaurant/bar that offers some of the most exciting deals in Dubai. The bar attracts a lot of exports, and gets busy on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. Carter’s is the only Oxygen Bar in Dubai with a 20 minute shot of pure oxygen costing 70 Dhs.
Best bars in Dubai
There is no specific nightlife districts as many of the best bars are in the big tourist hotels, which are situated throughout the city. Many of these are open until 0100 or 0200. Dress codes for bars are generally relaxed, although some bars and all clubs insist on no jeans, trainers or sandals. Cheaper and livelier option is the independent bars, with Thursdays and Saturday the biggest nights for going out. Tuesdays and Sundays are often Ladies Night, with female revelers receiving free drinks. The legal drinking age is 21. One of the oldest ex-pat bars, the Irish Village, Aviation club, off Al-Garhoud Road, is still going strong, with good range of beers and an outdoor seating area. It has stiff competition from other bars like The Pyramids, Wafi Centre. A favorite of Dubai’s beautiful people is the Swish Coho, Dubai Marina Resort, Jumeirah Beach Road, a bar-cum restaurant with real buzz.
